Steam Next Fest runs until 26 October: where to read a demo's AI disclosure
Steam Next Fest: October 2026 started on 19 October and ends on 26 October at 10:00 AM PDT, according to Valve's Steamworks page for the event. Posts on r/indiegames put the number of demos above 8,000. That is too many to try, so here is a quick way to check one thing many players now ask about before they download: did the game use generative AI, and where?
On Steam, scroll down a game's store page to the section titled "AI Generated Content Disclosure". Since January 2024 Valve has asked developers to describe AI use in their content survey, and the answer appears there in the developer's own words. It can be very specific. For example, Football Pitch Simulator's page says AI made the store capsules and logos and the voices in its dialogues. If the section is missing, the page simply has no disclosure. That is not the same as a promise of no AI, so on this site we label it "no declaration".
On itch.io the information table under a game ("More information") has an "AI Disclosure" row listing what was generated, such as code or graphics. Developers who used none can say so: the table then reads "No generative AI was used", and the game is usually tagged "No AI".
Every pick on this site quotes that official text and links to it, so you can check our label yourself.
